Protect yourself from STI's this holiday season

The holiday season is a busy time for Peel Public Health's Healthy Sexuality Clinics. Studies suggest that festivities and vacation lead to increased sexual activity around Christmas and New Year's.

If you have questions about your sexual health, Peel Public Health is here to help. Our Sexual Health Clinics provide free testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and pregnancy, as well as provide low cost birth control, free STI treatment, counselling and referrals.

STIs are on the rise in Peel and Ontario.

The most reported infection is chlamydia. Last year alone, 3,879 people in Peel were newly diagnosed with the infection. Rates of gonorrhea and syphilis are also increasing.

People infected with chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis may sometimes not notice symptoms, but don't be fooled! Untreated chlamydia, for example, can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) causing severe pain and infertility. Fortunately, early detection and treatment of these STIs is effective in preventing long-term health consequences.

Give yourself the gift of peace-of-mind this holiday season by visiting a Sexual Health Clinic. You don't need an appointment or an Ontario health card for service.
