Canada Post Strike

How access to Regional services could be affected by a Canada Post strike.

During the Canada Post strike, how you send and receive important documents to the Region of Peel may need to change. Review the following information to see if any of the Regional services you use are affected.

Our Service Peel desks are open at our two Regional offices from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. However, payments can be made after hours by using our outside drop boxes.

How can I keep receiving my child care fee subsidy?

You can drop off your documents at one of our Regional offices (10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton and 7120 Hurontario Street in Mississauga). There is also an after hours drop box at outside both locations.

Communicate any updates to your Children’s Services Worker by fax, phone or email.

Pre-determinations

If requested, we will fax pre-determination forms and dental claim forms for Seniors’ Dental Program clients directly to the dental provider’s office.

Payments

  • Payments for treatment may be delayed during the strike.
  • Payments will continue to be delivered by mail (via cheque) or Electronic Funding Transfer (EFT). If you would like to set up EFT, please arrange with Accounts Payable

Will delivery of my Tuberculosis medication be affected?

No, alternative methods will be used to deliver tuberculosis medication.

How can I keep receiving my rent supplement?

You can drop off your documents at the nearest Regional office (10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton and 7120 Hurontario Street in Mississauga). There is also an after hours drop box at both locations.

Communicate any updates to your Rent Supplement Representative by fax, phone or email.

Can I pick up my Housing Allowance (IAH), Time Limited Housing Allowance (TLHA) and Portable Housing Benefit (PHB)?

Plans can be made to pick up your cheque at 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton. First you will need to call 905-453-1300 ext. 3505.

You will need to show your photo identification when you pick up your cheque.

If I pay my Peel Living rent by mail, how can I pay during the strike?

Here are options for paying your Peel Living rent during the strike.

Pre-authorized payment – Your rent is automatically taken from you bank account on the 1st day of each month. Call Peel Living at 905-790-7335 to set this up.

Electronic payment – You can pay your rent through your bank by phone, ATM or online

Certified cheque and money orders – You can drop off payment at the following locations:

Office hours: Monday to Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours drop box outside both locations

Cash or debit – Visit the Access Peel customer service desk at our two Regional offices.

Cash payments can also be made at a cash advance service such as Cash Money or Money Mart locations. Please allow 2 to 3 business days for the payment to be processed and received by Peel Living. Remember to include your client ID and the reason for payment.

How do I prevent disruption to my Peel Access to Housing (PATH) application or to my ongoing PATH housing subsidy wait list application?

You can drop off your application and/or update documents at your nearest Regional headquarters (10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton or 7120 Mississauga Road in Mississauga).

You can also drop off documents after hours in the outside drop off boxes.

You can communicate any updates to the PATH team by fax, phone or email.

How do I make payments or receive invoices for Long Term Care and Adult Day Services?

If you usually receive your invoice through the mail, you can instead use one of the below options to make a payment:

  • In person, at your Long Term Care centre
  • Signing up to receive invoices by email
  • Signing up for pre-authorizes payment

How do I pick up my Ontario Works cheque?

Cheques can be picked up in person at your nearest Regional headquarters 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton or 7120 Mississauga Road in Mississauga.

Clients who receive Ontario Works cheques by mail will be able to pick up their November benefit cheques starting on Monday October 29th .  Cheques are available for pick up Monday to Friday  from 9:30am to 4:30 pm.

Valid Photo Identification is required to receive cheques.

When will I receive Direct Deposit?

All regularly scheduled Direct Deposit payments for November will be deposited to bank accounts as scheduled on October 31st.

*Switch to direct deposit payments to have funds electronically submitted to your bank account. Please note: direct deposits may not be processed in time for November payments.

To switch to direct deposits for future payments you must contact your Caseworker or submit a Direct Deposit form which you can obtain directly from your banking institution.

How do I report my monthly income to receive my Ontario Works assistance?

You can provide your income information via telephone, fax, by emailing your Caseworker, or by dropping off a completed Income Reporting Statement at a Regional office. Drop boxes are available to accept information after hours.

If your Ontario Works assistance is deposited into your bank account, during the strike you may not receive your printed October statement until the strike is over.

Statement of assistance can be used if you require dental work. Your dental care provider can contact Great West life to confirm your eligibility for dental care. Children under 18 are covered under the Healthy Smiles Program.

Eligibility and assessment information sent by mail may arrive later than expected. For status updates on recent applications or completed assessments, call 905-791-1015.

How can I make a payment to my TransHelp account or purchase a Taxi Scrip?

How can I apply for TransHelp during the strike?

Vendors can pick up their payment cheques at 10 Peel Centre Dr. in Brampton. Vendors can also arrange for Electronic Funding Transfer through Accounts Payable or directly through their clients, Vendors are encouraged to forward invoices via email.

Will I receive my water bills during the strike?

If you receive your water bill by mail, a potential Canada Post labour disruption would delay the delivery of water bills.

Please review the following information:

  • If you are on pre-authorized payment plan – your billed amount will be withdrawn from your bank account as usual.
  • If you are NOT on preauthorized payment you should make the payment based on your last billed amount. Adjustments will be made in your next billing cycle without penalty.
  • If you receive your bill late due to the strike you can pay "Amount Now Due" without late payment penalty.
  • If you receive your water bill electronically via e-post you will receive your bill on time.

How do I pay my water bill during the strike?

Preauthorized payment and electronic billing services will continue. If you do not use these methods, you have three additional options for payments

Through any Chartered Bank:
Most chartered banks will accept your payment before the due date. Please contact your bank for more details.

By telebanking or online banking:
Contact your bank to arrange these options.

In person at:

How do I receive Yard Waste Stickers or Garbage Tags?

These can be picked up at your nearest Regional office (10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton and 7120 Hurontario Street in Mississauga). If you have limited mobility, please contact us and a bylaw officer will deliver them to your home.
