Family Literacy Workshops

Literacy skills are learned before children start school and are the building blocks for lifelong learning.

The Region of Peel’s free Family Literacy Program is a series of nine workshops that will help parents learn how to support their child’s literacy development. Spend time as a family while you learn how to:

  • Increase your child’s vocabulary
  • Make books an enjoyable part of daily life
  • Use math throughout the day
  • Help your child make the connection between signs, labels, logos and words
  • Help your child develop early writing skills
  • Use play to help your child build their literacy skills
  • Set television limits and guide your child’s viewing habits

Family Literacy programs are offered in English, Mandarin, Punjabi and French.

We recognize and thank the Peel District School Board, the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board, Ontario Institute for Child Studies, Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest and Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud for their continued partnership in this project.
