Businesses and organizations who provide goods and services to people in Ontario will have to meet certain accessibility standards in five important areas of our lives:

To learn more about each standard, click on a topic above.

    What is the ODA?

ODA stands for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001.

The ODA requires all municipalities to establish an Accessibility Advisory Committee and to prepare and file an Annual Accessibility Report listing their progress on removal of existing barriers and prevention of new barriers within their services, programs, policies, by-laws and facilities.

How will the ODA remove Barriers?

The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 seeks to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and helps to identify, remove and prevent barriers allowing for full participation in the life of the province.

    What is the AODA?

AODA stands for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

The AODA is built on the principle that persons with disabilities should have the same opportunities to access goods and services.

How will the AODA remove Barriers?

The AODA has established five accessibility standards in an effort to identify and remove barriers. An accessibility standard is a rule that an organization must follow to identify, remove and prevent barriers. The Region of Peel 2013-2017 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan outlines the activities and projects that the Accessibility Planning Program, Regional departments and the AAC are following to ensure that accessibility barriers in Regional programs, services and facilities are identified and removed and that the AODA requirements are met in a timely manner.
