THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF PEEL
BY-LAW NUMBER 8-96
A by-law to amend By-law Number 9-73, as amended, titled "A by-law of the Regional Municipality of Peel respecting the supply of water, the management and maintenance of the water works system of the Regional Municipality and the establishment of water rates and charges," to set Regional Utility Water Rates and Service Charges and to amend By-law Number 111-93.
WHEREAS By-law Number 9-73, as amended, provides for the supply of water, the management of the waterworks system of the Regional Corporation and the establishment of water rates and charges;
AND WHEREAS Regional Council has by resolution adopted on 25th January, 1996 approved revised Utility Service Charges;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Regional Corporation enacts as follows:
1. That Section 2 - Rates for Water Sold to Consumers, of Schedule "A" to By-law Number 9-73, is hereby repealed, and the following substituted therefor:
"That the rates set out below are effective for all accounts rendered monthly by the Regional Corporation on or after January 31, 1996, and for all accounts rendered quarterly by the Regional Corporation on or after April 1, 1996:
(1) Unmetered Consumption
A flat rate of $6.00 per month for consumers whose water consumption is unmetered shall be levied on a three-month interval.
(2) Consumption Rates
Each metered service shall be billed separately. The metered rates shall be as follows:
(a) $1.80 per thousand Imperial gallons metered, and
(b) $3.9594 per ten cubic meters (10m3) metered.
(3) Penalty for Late Payment
(a) If payment is not received by the specified due date, a penalty equal to five percent of the originally billed amount shall be added to the bill and become receivable.
(b) Where Regional staff are satisfied that the consumer has committed an error in payment of their water bill, yet has attempted to pay the full amount, the unpaid balance will be added to the succeeding bill without penalty.
(4) Billing Schedule
(a) All bills with average consumption under 100,000 gallons or 45 x 10m3 per month shall be billed quarterly (13 week periods), others monthly.
(b) Regional staff shall attempt to obtain four (4) meter readings per year for consumers billed quarterly, and twelve (12) meter readings per year for consumers billed monthly."
