THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF PEEL

BY-LAW NUMBER 44-2000

A by-law to allow for disabled persons’ parking on Regional roads, to designate a disabled persons’ parking stall on the south side of Regional Road 22 (Old Church Road) from a point 60 metres east of Regional Road 7 (Airport Road) to a point 70 metres east of Regional Road 7 (Airport Road), and to amend By-law Number 48-94 being a by-law to regulate traffic on roads under the jurisdiction of the Regional Municipality of Peel.

 

WHEREAS the Council of the Regional Corporation on the 12th May, 1994 passed By-law 48-94 to consolidate the by-laws that regulate traffic on roads under the jurisdiction of the Regional Municipality of Peel and which by-law is hereinafter referred to as "the by-law";

AND WHEREAS the Council of the Regional Municipality of Peel has by resolution passed on the 1st June, 2000 authorized the enactment of a by-law to amend the by-law with respect to allowing for disabled persons’ parking on Regional roads and to designating a disabled persons’ parking stall of the south side of Regional Road 22 (Old Church Road) from a point 60 metres east of Regional Road 7 (Airport Road) to a point 70 metres east of Regional Road 7 (Airport Road);

NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Regional Corporation enacts as follows:

1. That By-law 48-94 be amended by adding paragraph (ad) to Subsection 2. (1) as follows:

2. (1) (ad) "disabled person" means an individual who is unable to walk unassisted for more than 200 metres without great difficulty or danger to his or her health or safety; and the applicant submits a certificate of a medical practitioner, on a form to be provided by the Ministry, certifying that the applicant is a disabled person and setting out whether the disability is temporary or permanent and, if temporary, the anticipated length of time the disability is expected to continue, if known.

 

2. That By-law 48-94 be amended by adding Subsection 8. (4) as follows:

8. (4) Where a parking stall designated for use by disabled persons is designated for parallel parking, the Rc-6 sign shall be erected adjacent to the stall within its longitudinal limits such that it is clear to which stall the designation applies, but not so as to interfere with access to and from parked vehicles;

3. That Schedule I of By-law 48-94 be amended by adding Part 17 – Disabled Parking as follows:
