THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF PEEL
 
BY-LAW NUMBER 43- 2005
 
A by-law to authorize the execution of an agreement between the Regional Corporation, the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services (Ontario) and the Corporation of the Town of Caledon for provision of police services in Caledon by the Ontario Provincial Police.

 

WHEREAS under subsection 4(1) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.15 as amended (the "Act"), the Regional Corporation is required to provide adequate and effective police services in accordance with its needs;

AND WHEREAS under section 5 of the Act, the Regional Corporation's responsibility for providing police services may be discharged by entering into an agreement with the Solicitor General under section 10 of the Act;

AND WHEREAS pursuant to Order in Council 1708/2003, the powers assigned to the Solicitor General in law, including those set out in the Act, have been transferred to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services;

AND WHEREAS the Regional Corporation intends to provide police services, in pursuance of its responsibilities under section 5 of the Act, by means of an agreement for the provision of police services by the Ontario Provincial Police under section 10 of the Act;

NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Regional Corporation enacts as follows:

1. That the signing officers for the Regional Corporation are hereby authorized to execute an agreement for the provision of police services by the Ontario Provincial Police in the Town of Caledon under section 10 of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.15 as amended, substantially in the form of the agreement presented to the Council of the Regional Corporation pursuant to the report of the Commissioner of Corporate Services dated March 3, 2005.
