The Community Investment Committee (CIC) met on May 16, 2013, at 1:07 p.m. in the Council Chamber, Regional Administrative Headquarters, 10 Peel Centre Drive, Suite A, Brampton.

1. ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR

RECOMMENDATION CIC-1-2013:

That Councillor Moore be elected Chair of the Community Investment Committee for the term ending November 30, 2014, or until a successor is appointed;

And further, that Councillor Carlson be elected Vice-Chair of the Community Investment Committee for the term ending November 30, 2014, or until a successor is appointed.


Councillor Moore assumed the Chair.

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

RECOMMENDATION CIC-2-2013:

That the agenda for the May 16, 2013 Community Investment Committee meeting, be approved.

      Presentation by Sandra Solonik, Advisor, Community Investment and Melissa Toney, Supervisor, Strategic Planning, Policy and Partnerships

Sandra Solonik, Advisor, Community Investment, and Melissa Toney, Supervisor, Strategic Planning, Policy and Partnerships provided an overview of how the Community Investment Program has changed in its funding allocations and guided the members through an example of every stage of the process of applying for dollars for any agency seeking funding. They emphasized the SmartSimple technology utilized by the Region of Peel which has streamlined the process for ease of use by agencies and staff.

Councillor Fonseca arrived at 1:30 p.m.

In response to a question from Councillor Moore, Melissa Toney stated that staff have received positive feedback from current clients and agencies on the implementation of the new program, the new direction the Region’s Community Investment funding is taking, and the emphasis upon technological streamlining.

In response to a question from Regional Chair Kolb, Sandra Solonik stated that the Region’s Information Technology staff and related departments approve of the technology being used for the SmartSimple program, and given the online nature of the website, it is flexible should changes be required in the future.
