4. REPORTS

a) Peel Regional Paramedic Services Provincial Funding Update for 2012

Received

Councillor Paterak inquired whether Hospital Nursing Program funding outlined in this report was provided to Dufferin County for Headwaters Hospital. Peter Dundas, Chief and Director, Peel Regional Paramedic Services responded that only a select group of municipalities with significant offload delay receive funding. The offload delay issue is not as significant in Dufferin County.

b) Update: Paramedic Services 10 Year Facility Plan

Received

Councillor Paterak inquired whether the Reporting Station on Bovaird Drive would be receiving 13 additional full-time employees (FTEs). Peter Dundas, Chief and Director, Peel Regional Paramedic Services responded that the 13 FTEs would be for the vehicle preparedness technicians or make ready crew, similar to the Regional Council-approved vehicle preparedness technicians at the Tomken Road Reporting Station. They would be requested in the 2014 budget and an evaluation is underway at the Tomken site to determine if 13 is the correct number required.

Councillor Saito inquired whether there was an opportunity for a future co-location of emergency responders for Station 122, noting that when it was first built, there was additional space on the site that was not developed. Peter Dundas responded that while this location was investigated originally for this purpose, it was discovered it had been zoned for different purposes. This led to the decision to build a Reporting Station at Thomas Street and Erin Mills Parkway to help service the area. Fire Chief McDougall confirmed that a co-location was investigated, but was not feasible.

7. OTHER BUSINESS

a) Central Ambulance Communications Centres (CACC) Advocacy Update (Oral)

Received

David Arbuckle, Manager, Public Policy and Government Relations provided an update on current advocacy efforts regarding Central Ambulance Communications Centres (CACC) and other ambulance dispatch issues. On August 1, 2012 the Chairs of the Regional Municipalities of Peel and York, and the Warden of the County of Simcoe met with the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews, to discuss the POMAX Inc. report that reviewed land ambulance dispatch services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The main message was one of unity among the GTA Chairs/Warden to begin implementing many of the report’s recommendations, specifically on governance and technology, to both improve the service and save taxpayer dollars. The Chairs/Warden also called for the release of the Niagara Pilot Study completed by the province. Minister Matthews showed appreciation for the message of the participants and directed her staff to work with the GTA group on solutions to help alleviate some of the GTA groups concerns.

David Arbuckle also indicated that since the meeting with Minister Matthews occurred the Niagara Pilot Study has been released and is currently being reviewed by Chief Dundas and policy staff from Health Services.
