Biography of Janet Menard

With more than 30 years of experience in the field of human services, Janet Menard’s career has included progressive roles with Metropolitan Toronto, Halton Region and the Region of Peel.

She joined Peel Region in 2001 as Director of Ontario Works, for the Social Services Department, later serving as Acting Commissioner of Social Services from October 2005 to July 2007. Over the last three years, during a significant period of change, Janet has held the positions of Executive Director, Transition and Integration, for the new Human Services Department, as well as Acting Director Housing Policy and Programs. She was named Commissioner in July 2009.

Her areas of focus in both her professional and volunteer commitments include quality assurance, collaborative management strategies to deliver human services and creating opportunities for newcomers to succeed.

An advocate for continuous learning, Janet’s academic credentials include both human services and broader management studies at the University of Waterloo, York University, the Schulich School of Business (Toronto), Queen’s University, Ryerson and Centennial College.

Janet is married with three daughters and lives in Peel.
