Services
Energy Management helps Peel Region facilities save energy and money by providing the following services:
Energy Procurement
Since the deregulation of the natural gas markets in the 1980s and the electricity market in 2002, energy is purchased or "procured" in an open marketplace. This means fluctuating energy prices. To help stabilize energy costs for future years, Energy Management performs energy procurement services for Peel Region. By obtaining contracts with utility suppliers, Energy Management decreases Peel Region’s exposure to sudden swings in energy prices, which helps reduce financial risk and saves taxpayer money.
Energy Services
Energy Management uses an innovative "real time" energy tracking technology to measure the energy consumption of various Regional facilities. This data tracker is critical in that the information:
- Helps monitor energy use for opportunities to reduce consumption through efficiency and retrofit projects.
- Helps build consumption profiles for different Regional facilities so that any unexpected or adverse changes in energy use can be investigated.
Advisory Services
Energy Management provides fellow Regional departments with up-to-date information about energy efficiency practices, renewable energy technology and even leading energy and environmental standards that can be applied to new building designs or to existing buildings through upgrades.
Utility Bill Validation and Payment for Regional Facilities
Energy Management provides bill validation and bill verification services by keeping a complete database of Regional energy accounts that contain all historical and current energy bills. This way, Peel Region and its taxpayers can be sure that they have been charged correctly for their energy consumption.
Research and Development
Energy Management is always investigating new technologies and developments that will give Peel Region more ways to reduce energy costs and build sustainable communities. One of our ongoing investigations is in renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind energy and even bio-mass systems—all of which help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for Peel.
Public Outreach
Our “Energy ” doesn't just go into gas and electricity incentives, Energy Management also puts a lot of time and effort into community involvement. Creating public awareness about smart energy use ensures that residents of Peel Region have the tools to conserve energy at home, at work and on the road.
