Peel’s Planned Commitment to Sustainable Energy

  • In the spring of 2007, the Region of Peel officially passed its Energy Management Plan, which provides a 25-year vision for how it purchases, consumes and manages its energy use.
  • The Energy Management Plan will help to meet energy needs through investments in efficiency, conservation and clean and secure energy sources that contribute to the health and security of Peel’s energy future.

Partners in Energy Conservation

  • Through research, development and partnership opportunities, the Region of Peel is committed to looking for new opportunities to apply renewable energy technology.
  • The Clarkson Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Flairs™ Project is a joint partnership initiative between the Region of Peel and local electricity distribution company, Enersource Corporation.
  • Enersource Corporation is a diversified energy and technologies company focusing on quality of service with the distribution of electricity, delivery of electricity conservation programs and smart metering solutions to meet government objectives and non-regulated services related to the electricity sector.
  • Since 2005, Enersource has invested more than $10 million in conservation programs, which has resulted in 3.5 megawatts of peak demand shifted.
  • Enersource also offers a wide variety of conservation programs to its customers to help promote the ‘culture of conservation’ in Ontario.

Renewable Energy Sources

  • Photovoltaic (PV) technology, also known as “solar power,” is a renewable energy source and works by converting the sun’s energy into clean, electrical power.
  • The Clarkson PV Solar Flairs™ Project consists of nine solar systems which are grouped together to maximize energy production potential.
  • The Solar Flairs™ require little maintenance and last approximately 35 years.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon.
