Get Your Flu Shot Every Year
The 2011-2012 influenza viruses caused illness for 596 people in the Region of Peel between September and April. To prevent and minimize the effects of the flu, get a flu shot every year.
Our community clinics have ended for the current influenza season, but you can still get your flu shot at the doctor's office or participating pharmacies. Find a clinic in your area.
What is Seasonal Influenza?
Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by Influenza Viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions are at high risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. The flu is spread easily through coughing, sneezing or through touching contaminated surfaces and objects, such as unwashed hands, toys and eating utensils.
The seasonal flu can be prevented by getting the seasonal flu vaccine every year and by practising good hand washing.
