Safety Considerations
- Make sure the floor is free of any obstructions.
- Have students spread out and if possible move the desks to the side so students have more room.
|
Instructions
- This activity resembles Simon Says.
- Split the class in half, and have one leader for each of the two groups of students.
- Have one leader at the front and one at the back of the class.
- The two leaders lead the groups simultaneously in a series of fitness activities. Activities should involve large muscle groups to increase heart rate. [Running on the spot, jumping jacks, touch toes, side steps, ski (jump side to side with feet together), jump rope, etc.]
- The leaders call out "Do this" and the group is to follow what they do. If they call out, "Do that", the group must not do the activity and continue to do what they were doing (like Simon Says).
- If any of the students follow the leader when he/she says, “Do that” then they are to join the other group.
|
Accommodations/Modifications
- If your class is small, have one leader instead. If any of the students follow the leader when he/she says “Do that” then have them do five jumping jacks before rejoining the group.
