Safety Considerations
- Make sure the floor is free of any obstructions.
- Inform students that this isn’t a race. Pushing and running are not allowed.
|
Instructions
- Divide the class into two groups and place them on either side of the room.
- Assign each person a vowel.
- Call out a physically active word, activity or sport and if their vowel is in the word, then they run over to the other side of the room.
|
Accommodations/Modifications
- Instead of running, have students hop, skip, side step, do jumping jacks, etc.
- For disabled students, have them do actions on the spot like arm circles, bicep curls, etc.
- If available, use the Food Model Cards as part of the game. Hold up a card and ask students what food it is. Once they answer correctly, they must determine if their vowel is in the word and if it is, they run to the other side of the room.
