Safety Considerations
- Make sure the gym floor is free of any obstructions, and that the floor isn’t wet or slippery.
- Before starting, demonstrate certain actions like the squat.
|
Instructions
- Form a circle. Using the “Hickory, Dickory, Dock” rhyme, students perform certain actions.
- Examples: Hickory, dickory, dock (move forward to form a smaller circle).
- The mouse ran up the clock (move backwards to the original circle).
- The clock struck (choose a # and do an overhead clap that many times).
- Say the action that corresponds to the number and perform it.
- 1 = down he ran (shimmy to the floor)
- 2 = he got stuck in goo (run on spot)
- 3 = he ran with glee (run on spot)
- 4 = he opened the door (pantomime)
- 5 = he came alive (jump and jiggle)
- 6 = he picked some flowers (pantomime)
- 7 = he floated to heaven (waft back and forth)
- 8 = he jumped the gate (pantomime)
- 9 = he stood as a line (tall and straight)
- 10 = his knees he bent (squats)
- 11 = he got lost (turn around in circles)
- 12 = his foot went numb (smack foot on the ground 3x)
- For example: “Hickory, dickory, dock (form smaller circle), the mouse ran up the clock (go back to larger circle), the clock struck two (clap twice), he got stuck in goo (run on the spot): Hickory, dickory, dock.”
|
Accommodations/Modifications
- Go around the circle and have students come up with their own action for each number.
- Modify the actions to be inclusive for all levels of ability.
