Safety Considerations
- Use the following squatting technique: Knees over ankles, knees don't go past the toes, upper leg at a 90° angle to the lower leg and parallel to the floor.
- Make sure the floor is free of any obstructions.
- If possible, move the desks aside so that students can jump up and down in the centre of class.
Instructions |
- Demonstrate: Have students squat with their head tucked in and arms wrapped over their head.
- Tell them they're kernels of popcorn - and the pot is getting hotter.
- As you say, "It's getting hotter and hotter," students will lightly bounce but still cover their head.
- When you say, "Pop," have students begin to jump up and down.
- Continue for 20-30 counts.
Accommodations/Modifications |
- Use music to indicate that the pot is getting hotter. When you shut off the music, the kernels have "popped" and students continue to jump up and down.
- Turn off most of the classroom lights and tell the students the pot is getting even hotter. When you turn on all the lights, the kernels have "popped," so students should stop jumping up and down.
