Safety Considerations
- Make sure the floor is free of any obstructions.
- Ensure that students spread apart. This activity can be done behind or beside their desks.
Instructions
- Have students begin the activity by marching slowly on the spot.
- Say "Action," then one of the statements below. Children follow your accompanying action.
| Statement | Action |
| "It's raining hard" | Children march faster |
| "It's raining harder" | Children run on the spot, pumping arms back and forth |
| "I hear lightening" | Children clap hands |
| "I hear thunder" | Children shout "Boom" |
| "It's raining softer" | Children slow down, marching more slowly until the rain stops |
- Change the activities to suit the children in your class, and to accommodate any physically disabled students.
- Do the activity with the students so they can visually comprehend the instructions. (This is also helpful for hearing impaired students.)
