Peel Public Health would like to recognize and sincerely thank the following pilot schools for their participation, accomplishments and successes in the areas of physical activity and nutrition:
- Garthwood Park Public School, Mississauga
- Mountain Ash Public School, Brampton
- Ruth Thompson Middle School, Mississauga
- St. Stephen School, Brampton
- St. Teresa of Avila School, Mississauga
Physical Activity
- "Amazing Race" - family weekend event held at local Parks & Recreation Centre
- Assemblies with skits; mascot
- Fitness Fridays - held outdoors at recess, led by fitness team
- Fitness teams with trained student leaders guiding other students in routines
- Olympics - all students assigned to represent various countries, rotated through fitness circuit in gym
- Playground Activity Leaders in Schools (P.A.L.S.)
- Walking programs at school and walking events with families
Nutrition
- Daily milk program
- Nutrition trivia contest with prizes
- Nutritious snack program available to all students two mornings a week
- Parent communication - school newsletters, Peel Public Health displays and literature at school events
- Parent presentations
- Special food days - Milky Monday, Whole Wheat Wednesday, Fruit & Vegetable Friday
- Studentled "Snacks on Wheels" snack program - selling healthy snacks and beverages daily
