Business Continuity Plan - Protect

Develop Your Response Plan

Develop plans to maintain services/business processes in the event that a "threat" occurs.

For each service/business function, in descending order of priority,

  1. PEOPLE
Identify and train alternate staff to fulfill critical functions
  2. PROCESS
    Identify alternate suppliers where needed
    Develop streamlined/alternate processes
  3. FACILITIES
Identify alternate sites for business operations
    Address any security issues
  4. TECHNOLOGY
    Identify appropriate personnel for cross-training
Maintain hard copy of essential policies/documents
Create contingency plans to maintain or restore Information Technology (IT) infrastructure

Define Your Chain of Command for Decision-Making

  • Develop a decision-making chain of command, including alternates
  • Identify who will decide when to implement the BCP, including alternate decision-makers

Implement Your BCP as Needed

  • Review completed risk assessment tool with specific reference to the event that is occurring.
  • If the event necessitating implementation of your BCP was unanticipated, complete the risk assessment tool.
  • Based on risk assessment and identified impacts, implement alternate plans for people, process, facility and technology beginning with the most critical services/business processes impacted by the event.

Maintain Your BCP

  • Test your plan
  • Regularly review your plan
  • Designate responsibility for maintaining your plan
