Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteers
  • Become a Breastfeeding Companion

Breastfeeding Companions are volunteers who encourage new mothers by providing telephone support throughout their breastfeeding experience.

Breastfeeding Companions offer breastfeeding help in English and other languages spoken by mothers in the Region of Peel



Goals

  • Support mothers to breastfeed for at least six months by increasing their knowledge and skills
  • Provide emotional and empathetic support by sharing breastfeeding experiences
  • Share information about community resources relevant to breastfeeding families

Volunteer Requirements

  • Have a belief in the value of breastfeeding
  • Have breastfed for at least 6 months
  • Be willing to provide telephone support to breastfeeding mothers for up to six months
  • Timing of telephone support is flexible and may vary according to the needs of the breastfeeding mother
  • Must attend a one-day training session
