What is alcohol poisoning?

Alcohol poisoning is an overdose of alcohol and is a very serious condition.  It can happen to adults or teenagers.  If a person drinks a large amount of alcohol in a short amount of time the blood alcohol concentration rises to a point of intoxication.  The body usually reacts by blacking-out, passing-out or vomiting. 

What are some of the symptoms of alcohol poisoning?

  • vomiting while asleep
  • won’t wake up
  • slow breathing or slow pulse
  • cold, pale or bluish skin

What should I do if I think someone has alcohol poisoning?

  1. Call 911
  2. Make sure the person is breathing
  3. Place person in the recovery position – head lined up with the body and turned on the side
  4. Stay with them until help arrives
