Creative Breakfast Ideas

A nutritious breakfast includes foods from at least three of the four food groups of Canada's Food Guide. Children who miss breakfast may become tired, have a short attention span and may not be meeting their daily nutrient requirements.

Is your family bored with breakfast? In a rush to get out the door?

Try some new ideas!

At home…

  • Toast an English muffin, add melted cheese and have a glass of orange juice.
  • Spread peanut butter on a small pita or tortilla wrap and wrap it around a banana. Enjoy it with a cold glass of milk.
  • Make a whole grain toaster waffle topped with yogurt and berries or sliced canned peaches.
  • Try a scrambled egg sandwich. Add a glass of 1% chocolate milk or fruit juice.
  • Fill a tortilla or pita with fresh sliced or canned fruit and cottage cheese.
  • Grate cheese over a corn tortilla; fold it in half and microwave for 20 seconds. Top with salsa. Experiment with different flavours of cheese!

On the run, take a...

  • Bagel with peanut butter and a yogurt drink
  • Cheese string, crackers and fruit
  • Muffin, banana and a carton of milk
  • Slice of pizza and a juice box
  • Cereal bar, cheese string and juice box
  • Whip up a fruit smoothie in a blender or food processor.
