About three million Canadians are affected by five serious respiratory diseases – asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, tuberculosis and cystic fibrosis. In 2004, respiratory diseases were the third most common main diagnosis resulting in hospitalization in Canada.
