Nurturing the Next Generation (NTNG)

News and Updates

Following the completion of the NTNG Situational Assessment, the NTNG Project Team embarked on a synthesis process. This process consisted of a series of facilitated discussions with the Nurturing the Next Generation Project Team, a group of Core Decision Makers (CDM), a Reference Group and an Advisory Group. The goal of the process was to use the evidence collected over the past four and a half years to identify points of convergence, emerging issues, develop preliminary recommendations, and identify strategies for action. Finally, five areas of focus were proposed for this strategic priority moving forward.

Through facilitated discussions and group consensus, the CDM group identified the demonstrated needs of families with young children in Peel that align with the NTNG Conceptual Model and fall within the public health mandate. The CDM, in collaboration with the NTNG Project Team used their explicit and tacit knowledge of public health to integrate the evidence collected to develop the NTNG Mission, Vision, Values and Goals.

The Reference Group, which included direct service staff and managers from across the Public Health department, provided feedback on the Mission, Vision, Values and Goals to the CDM Group and NTNG Project Team. They identified opportunities for collaboration within Peel Public Health and played a key role in inter-departmental communication about the NTNG Strategic Priority.

Most recently, the Advisory Group consisting of experts in Early Child Development, Geography, Nursing, Psychology, Social Marketing, Medicine, Sociology, Public Health and other fields, were presented with a high-level overview of the research conducted by the NTNG Project Team. This fostered a discussion about the demonstrated needs of families with young children in Peel, including areas of focus and possible interventions for consideration. Their feedback will be incorporated in the future direction of the NTNG strategic priority.
