Planning & Networking for Transition
Would you like to be able to make the following statement?
“I feel equipped to face my daughter’s future.”
That’s how one parent felt after completing our Planning & Networking for Transition workshop. Other participants offered these comments:
“It gave me hope and knowledge.”
“A motivator for organizing my thoughts towards a concrete goal.”
Peel Partners for Transition offers a workshop for teens (14+) with developmental disabilities and their families to prepare them for the teen’s transition from school to adult activities.
This series will encourage families to develop a support team that includes siblings, contract workers, teachers, and friends in order to help their child make the transition from school to work and/or post-secondary activities in the community.
The youth will be encouraged to get involved with the creation of a complete and achievable plan for the future. Families and young people will also benefit from the contacts they make here, gaining information and sharing their “vision” with others.
At the end of training, your family will have a complete, achievable plan that your support team can put into action.
This is a 5 week program consisting of 2-hour weekly sessions.
- Session 1: Discovering Reasons for Work, Leisure, and Learning
- Session 2: The Personal Profile
- Session 3: Developing the “Working Vision”
- Session 4: Accommodations and Job Coaching
- Session 5: Sharing our Vision with Others

Individual Education Plans: Standards & Directions
Kerry’s Place Autism Services, Brampton Caledon Community Living, Community Living Mississauga and Peel Case Management are pleased to present a FREE workshop for parents on the topic of Individual Education Plans.
Guest speaker Kathy Schaffer, from the Special Education Policy and Programs Branch, will review the Ministry of Education’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) Standards and talk about the role of parents in developing IEPs. She’ll also discuss a sample IEP for both elementary and high school students. Schaffer will be available for an informal question and answer period over the lunch-hour.
IEPs are written in September and October, so this will be an excellent opportunity to learn how you can best participate in the process.
Next Session: For enquiries about upcoming workshops or to express an interest about a specific topic, call the Region of Peel at 905-799-7700.
