"What are the Odds?” is an awareness campaign encouraging young adults, age 18-34 years to modify their attitudes and behaviours to ensure good health prior to conception.
By assuming than an unplanned pregnancy will not happen or by not planning for pregnancy, your unborn child may be at risk.
50%of pregnancies are unplanned. With odds like that, it’s best to look after your reproductive health long before a baby is conceived.
A healthy baby is dependent on the health of both men and women prior to pregnancy. Alcohol, drugs, tobacco – they all affect sperm and ovaries in negative ways. This can ultimately affect your baby’s health.
The period of greatest sensitivity for the developing baby is between 17 to 56 days after conception. This is often a time when a woman does not know she is pregnant.
Men and women should make healthy lifestyle choices a minimum of three months before conception in order to ensure optimal reproductive health.
