Personal Services Settings: Tattoos, Body Piercings and Permanent Makeup

When you get a tattoo, body piercing (piercing of the nose, eyebrow, tongue or belly button) or permanent makeup (micro-pigmentation) the needles used must be sterile and the equipment should be clean. If not, you could become infected with diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, and bacterial or fungal skin infections.

What to look for when getting a tattoo, body piercing or permanent makeup
Look for a professional studio. Studios should have proper equipment and be inspected at least once a year by Peel Public Health staff. Public health inspectors make sure such businesses are taking the right steps to control the spread of infectious diseases.
