Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) - also known as STDs or venereal diseases (VD) - are infectious diseases that are transferred from one person to another through any type of sexual contact (oral, anal and vaginal).
STIs are a serious health problem. Left untreated, some STIs can cause permanent damage, such as infertility (the inability to have a baby) or even death.
This section covers common STIs, HIV/AIDS and the risks associated with unsafe sex.
