Tuberculosis (TB)
Peel Public Health’s Responsibility
Peel Public Health is responsible for identifying, investigating and managing the follow-up of persons with active TB and latent TB infection. This is done by providing free TB medication, education, and supervision so that people with TB can be completely cured.
Public Health nurses conduct an investigation to identify individuals that may have been exposed to a TB case. The Health Department will assess the risk to the staff and students in the school and determine if further action is required. A Public Health nurse will offer TB education to the principal and staff to dispel myths and alleviate any concerns.
Remember: TB is preventable, treatable, and curable.
