Arresting Images
The Peel Heritage Complex is pleased to present Arresting Images from June 1 to July 12, 2009.
This travelling exhibition, organized by the OPP Museum, profiles a selection of late 19th and early 20th century mug shots, and examines the development and social phenomena of these unusual documents. As windows into the criminal world, the mug shots afford us a direct look at the faces of pickpockets, confidence men, escaped fugitives, murderers and horse thieves.
Arresting Images is organized and circulated by the OPP Museum, Orillia, in commemoration of the OPP’s 100th anniversary - a century of policing in Ontario.
Capturing an Exhibition: The Story behind Arresting Images
Join exhibition Curator Jeanie Tummon and Designer Timothy Laurin for a behind the scenes look at this fascinating exhibition. Both records of social history and artistic documents, the mug shots assembled for Arresting Images speak to us across the decades and continue to captivate our imaginations. Learn more about their stories and the story behind the exhibition on Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. in the Gallery.
The lecture is included in the admission cost to the PHC.
