Morrison log home 1880
Morrison log home, near Tullamore, c. 1880.

Researchers can delve into the history of Peel at the Region of Peel Archives, located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton.

The Archives was created by the Region in 1977 and now houses over 2,000 cubic feet of records. What began as a collection of government records has expanded to include business records, correspondence, deeds, maps, newspapers, photographs, posters and more. There are over 30,000 images of Peel from its earliest days to the present. The collection is housed in an environmentally monitored, secure room with state-of-the-art electronic compact shelving and fire suppression.

Each year, about 1,000 researchers visit the Archives. Visitors include a large number of genealogists working on their family history, but also teachers, students, lawyers, engineers, television and film researchers and local history buffs.

Our friendly staff is always eager to assist and is proud of its 1999 Award of Merit received from the Ontario Genealogical Society for preserving and maintaining historic records of the Region and providing public access to them.

The Archives is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 4:30 p.m.
