Design
The new additions have been carefully designed to work with the existing architecture. Glass has been chosen as the cladding for its transparency and to acknowledge the commercial greenhouse heritage of the community. Laminated wooden beams in the new reception and walkways are a nod to days of timber-framed barns.
New spaces:
- A covered walkway will connect the Museum and Archives with the Art Gallery
- New public entrances will feature generous day-lit spaces
- Barrier-free access from street level and the parking courtyard
- New Art Gallery shop
Environmentally responsible design elements are also incorporated:
- Climate-controlled exhibition spaces
- Geothermal heating and cooling
- Energy efficient plumbing and light fixtures
- Natural daylight in interior public spaces
- Increased vegetation and shading in exterior public spaces
