A Play About the Controversial 1909 Trial of Stefan Swyryda
Tickets on sale Feb. 1.
On Nov. 18, 1908, a judge from the Peel County Courthouse sentenced Stefan Swyryda to be hanged for the crime of murder on the grounds of what today is known as the Peel Heritage Complex (PHC). The events surrounding this dramatic and controversial trial and hanging are captured in the play, A Complex Verdict.
For those who love a complex murder story, live theatre, law and local history, experience the play in the courtroom where Justice Riddell delivered the sentence.
Written by professional actor and teacher Kristine Marchese, the script draws heavily on the trial transcript provided by the Region of Peel Archives and stored at the National Archives in Ottawa.
