Whitney Community Gallery 2009 Exhibition Schedule

Lanre Adefioye   “Life Stories”
Jan. 15 to Feb. 22
Opening Reception: Sunday, Jan. 11, 2-4 p.m.

Lanre’s bold, innovative designs modernize traditional African shapes in an array of vibrant hues that exemplify the diverse characteristics of the universe.

“My art is inspirational and philosophical. Art is like therapy; I believe it opens the mind to new possibilities, creates energy and optimism and provides comfort to the soul.”
Artist: Lanre Adefioye

Piccin's Art
Giancarlo Piccin
Feb. 26 to April 5

Piccin’s style explores the possibilities of architectural details and man-made objects as a subject matter, striving to capture light and luminosity through layers of translucent paint.

“By using minimal brush strokes on successive layers, I encourage the viewer to connect the missing links to form a complete image.”

Anella Cranwell
April 9 to May 17

Anella Cranwell
“I like to paint about things that I see and experience, and places that I have been to.  I love nature, so landscapes, or parts of landscapes such as the animals that inhabit them, often become the focus of my paintings.  I paint slowly, building up the paint layer by layer.  This allows me to experiment with different textures, and give depth to the painting.”
Scheherazade - Louise Laroche

Artist: Aditi Swaminathan
Aditi Swaminathan
April 9 to May 17

Originally from New Delhi, India, Aditi feels that India instilled a keen sense of observation of things ordinary and extraordinary in her.

“Travelling and living in places like India, South East Asia, the United States and Canada has made me view everyday life from a variety of perspectives and has provided inspiration in my paintings.”
