We are stewards of a valuable resource for the public good.
We embrace our responsibility as owners providing homes and quality of life for people.
Our business is based on seven purposes:
Social Conscience | Meeting the needs of the Board | Community Housing Solutions | Developing People | Administration | Compliance to Rules | Protecting Assets Social Conscience
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to communicate with our stakeholders to assess needs and expectations, and promote social responsibility.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- Our actions and policies are widely perceived as fair and objective.
- We continually probe to understand needs.
- We understand our commitment to social activism.
- We provide information and findings to the community to support advocacy on needs.
- We have ongoing dialog with all human service agencies regarding housing problems, situations, and solutions.
- We promote the participation of additional supporters.
Meeting the needs of the Board
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to support the Board function by providing information and advice, and taking direction to guide staff priorities.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- We consult with the board on corporate directions and gain approval.
- We communicate to staff on approved directions.
- We report to the board about business activities.
- We report to the board about emerging issues.
- We understand their needs.
- We get a regular corporate report card from Board.
- We build staff/board relationships.
Community Housing Solutions
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to continually pursue alternative housing solutions.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- We understand what is doable in the context of broad senior government policy.
- We network and research all possible funding and housing options.
- We promote solutions.
- We implement solutions.
Developing People
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to assure that we respect and develop our human resources.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- Staff feel empowered to make decisions based on their scope of responsibility.
- Staff actively pursue career and personal development that benefits the corporation.
- Information is available to help everyone succeed.
- Staff is rewarded for asking questions, sharing knowledge, taking risks, acting fairly, collaborating, looking ahead, serving with excellence.
- All staff/teams have approved key areas of focus, goals, and standards of performance.
- We have the skills, training, authority, resources, and motivation to do the job.
Administration
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to lead in the delivery of cost effective and efficient property management services.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- We benchmark our performance in all key activities.
- We continually challenge and improve our procedure, standards and business processes.
- We adapt to change resource needs brought on by internal and/or external factors.
- We communicate and help each other to improve our overall effectiveness.
- Every unit practices sound financial planning and accepts responsibility for its performance.
- We assess and evaluate technological advancements and implement those that have long term net benefits.
Compliance to Rules
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to use wisdom to administer fair and equitable policies, procedures and standards that reflect changing needs.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- The Board endorses all policies.
- Management endorses all procedures and standards.
- All policies, procedures, and standards are readily accessible.
- Specific policies, procedures, and standards are reviewed as needed. All are reviewed regularly and changes are recommended.
- All staff receive annual communication that the policies, procedures and standards have been endorsed, revoked or amended.
- We understand and comply with the rules.
- We can access a wisdom database/staff resource to determine precedents where we have made decisions outside the rules.
Protecting Assets
Our ongoing purpose in this area is to ensure that our housing capacity is maintained for future generations.
We know we are doing a good job in this area when the following conditions exist:
- We encourage integrated decision making to achieve the lowest lifecycle cost of our assets.
- We assess and project our capital needs to plan effectively. We maintain and communicate comprehensive asset information.
