Peel Youth Village Honoured at Mississauga Urban Design Awards
At the 24th annual Mississauga Urban Design Awards, Peel Youth Village received the Award of Merit for Community Context, Significance and Execution. Chosen from 22 nominees, the Regional development was recognized for achieving the highest standards in building design excellence.
Designed by Levitt Goodman Architects Ltd., Peel Youth Village is as unique in design as it is in function. Built for the needs of housing youth in transition as well as community programming, the materials used are both economical and durable but have been used in ways that create a simple, clean site design with rich, active spaces.
Peel Youth Village received top marks for its contribution to the visual image of the city, the harmonious context of the building in relation to surrounding buildings, its innovative use of an underutilized site, its contribution to the community character and the use of quality of building materials.
Many Regional staff and community partners were involved in the concept, design and execution stages of building Peel Youth Village – a building that one judge described as “a well thought out project and demonstrates that sometimes less is more.”
Congratulations to all those who worked tirelessly on the development of this award-winning structure.
