Peel Youth Village honoured at Mississauga Urban Design Awards

Opened Summer 2006
Peel Youth Village is an innovative mixed-use development incorporating both housing and a community centre. The housing component is for homeless youth in Peel and the community centre serves residents and the surrounding neighbourhood. Peel Youth Village provides recreation opportunities including a basketball half-court, as well as social services such as employment and life-skills counselling. Combined, the many opportunities Peel Youth Village offers will help disadvantaged but motivated young people get their lives on track.
Number of Units
48 rooms: 32 of the rooms will be organized into four-bedroom apartment pods with a shared kitchen and lounge and will be intended for mid-term or long-term stay . The remaining 16 rooms will have either one or two beds and will be intended for short-term stay.
Target Tenant Group
The intent of the development is to provide housing and program assistance to help stabilize Peel youth without permanent housing.
Design Features
Support services; counselling services; recreation activities; shared kitchen/living room in each pod; designed to maximize support and social interaction.
