Peel Advisory Working Group on Older Adults' Housing
Peel Region's population of older adults (55 years and older) is expected to almost triple over the next 20 years.
Recognizing the need to look at older adults' housing needs, the Region of Peel's Housing and Property, Planning and Social Services departments recently completed a comprehensive study entitled Housing Needs and Options of Older Adults in Peel Region: Final Report. The study, one of the first of its kind in Ontario , was approved by Regional Council in March, 2000.
Of the 30 recommendations contained in the study, the first is to set up an Advisory Working Group on Older Adults' Housing. In June 2000, Regional Council approved the Terms of Reference for the Advisory Working Group.
With broad participation from Peel citizens and organizations, the Advisory Working Group will develop and promote ways of meeting current and future housing needs for appropriate affordable rental and ownership housing for older adults in Peel Region.
The Housing and Property Department is leading the process to establish the Advisory Working Group and will provide secretariat and research support.
