Why Work at Peel?

What We Value

  • Regional Values - These five values are the guiding principles identified by Region of Peel employees to describe what drives and informs everything we do as an organization:

    1. SUPPORTIVE AND RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENT
    2. TEAMWORK
    3. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
    4. INTEGRITY
    5. QUALITY SERVICE
  • A Healthy Workplace - The Region has established a Healthy Workplace Program that is based on criteria developed by the National Quality Institute (NQI) and Health Canada.

  • Code of Conduct - A formal standard code of behaviour ensures a consistent understanding of the values, ethics and legal obligations by which the Region operates.

  • United Way - The Region supports the United Way of Peel Region as its official corporate charity.

We raised $254,597 for the United Way of Peel Region during 2007.
In past campaigns, our achievements earned us two prestigious awards:

    1. the Outstanding Public Sector Joint
      Union-Management Campaign Spirit Award
    2. the Campaign Chair’s Award of Merit.

We should be particularly proud of the Award of Merit – we won it over all large Peel-based private-sector businesses!

  • Alternate Flexible Work Schedule - Employees in some departments who have completed their probation can apply to rearrange their work schedules within a specific period. It is understood that work can be performed at times other than traditional office hours without negatively affecting the level or cost of service and client satisfaction provided to Peel citizens. This means that employees can enjoy a day off every two or three weeks by working extended hours on the remaining days.

  • Flextime Policy - Depending on their work location, employees can take up to one day off for extra hours worked over a four-week time period, separate from vacation or approved absence time.

  • "Open Door" Environment - The Region encourages open communication and accessibility with initiatives such as the CAO Employee Focus Group, departmental advisory committees, internal communication planning and through Pathways - the Region's Intranet site.
