Youve
likely heard the proverb Opportunity
knocks only once. Not so at the Stinson
household. The opportunity to work at the
Region of Peel knocked not once, but three
times on the Stinsons front door. |

First to join the Region in January 1990, Dallas
started as a Technical Analyst in the Public Works
Water and Wastewater division. Ten years later,
Dallas became the Supervisor responsible for monitoring
the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
system.
Eager to follow in his footsteps, Dallas
wife Val started in September 1992 as a temporary
worker in the water billing section. Today, as
a WASTELINE Operator, Val skillfully handles customer
inquiries and concerns received by the Regions
WASTELINE Operators and dispatches calls to the
Regions Customer Service Co-ordinators and
Municipal By law Officers for further investigation.
In October 2002, Val and Dallas welcomed their
son Jeremy to the Region. Jeremy started as a
temporary Customer Service Co-ordinator and in
February this year, he secured a contract position
as a Multi-residential Co-ordinator in the Regions
Waste Management division.
The Stinson family enjoys many benefits
by working for the same employer.
Not only can we give each other a heads-up
on work-related activities, but we can get together
for lunch from time to time, explains Val.
We share a strong work ethic and sense
of pride in our jobs, added Dallas. When
one of us experiences workplace challenges, the
others are more understanding and can offer support.
As a new kid on the block, Jeremy is sensitive
to how his peers may judge him.
On a day-to-day basis Val dispatches customer
calls to her own son for investigation. I
always maintain a professional relationship with
my mom on the job, said Jeremy. I
call her Val in the presence of my colleagues.
The Stinson family would not hesitate to recommend
Regional employees encourage family members to
join the Region. Working at the Region has
brought us together and has strengthened our family
values, Val remarked.
