After working in Environmental Health for 43 years, Cliff Clark says he’d do it all over again. Cliff, who will retire in April from his job as Director of Environmental Health, has seen this Region grow literally in front of his eyes.

Cliff joined the County of Peel in 1959 as a Sanitary Inspector trainee, and by 1964, at only 25 years of age, became the Chief Public Health Inspector and the youngest person in Canada to run an Environmental Health division at that time.

Cliff’s career is remarkably unique as it is filled with enormous learning opportunities and exciting challenges. Some of his most memorable work includes investigating the typhoid fever outbreak in 1974, being in the command centre during the Mississauga train derailment in 1979, and dealing with West Nile Virus in 2002.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to do what I love. Helping protect the health of our community brings me a lot of satisfaction and a great sense of accomplishment,” says Cliff.
