The
Region of Peel is a great place to work, relatively
speaking! Just ask Fareeda and
Adeel Ahmad, a mother and son who both work
for Ontario Works Fareeda in the 6715
Millcreek office and Adeel in the 21 Coventry
office. |

Fareeda was the
first to come to the Region as a Caseworker
in 1989. She assesses her clients financial
ability, refers them to employee services
for job possibilities and monitors their
progress. Her son Adeel was |
working in group
homes with young offenders helping them get
jobs. So when a posting for an Employment
Services Worker came up four years ago, Fareeda
told Adeel he was a perfect fit.
Adeel helps people get jobs, assists |
them with their
resumes and coaches them for interviews. He
also hosts workshops to provide job training.
Its nice having my mom work at
the Region, he said. I have the
best resource in the world. |
Altogether, the Crake family in Public
Works have 66 years of experience with the Region.
David Crake Sr., who currently works at Copper Rd.,
began in 1972 even before his son David Crake Jr.,
who works at Victoria Yard, was born. David Crake
Sr. works as Manager of the Roads division, starting
as a labourer and working his way up the ranks.
David Crake Sr.s brother Michael began
with the Region in 1981, working in the Print
Shop. Michael now works at Copper Rd. as a Public
Works Utilities Technical Analyst. My brother
told me about the job and gave me a reference,
so that was helpful, said Michael, adding
that the best thing about his job is working with
the people.
David Jr. started with Public Works in 1990 as
a Surveyor Rodman at Copper Rd.. He now works
at Victoria Yard as a Water Works Crewman. I
was finishing high school and I knew the Region
had provided a good career for my dad, so naturally
I thought it would be a good place for me.
David Crake Sr. sums it up by saying, Im
proud that my family is helping serve the Region.
You might as well work for the best.
