There’s a little room in Bernadette Cordingley’s house shared by 40 teddy bears - each one with its own name, lovingly bestowed upon it by

Bernadette’s oldest grand daughter. Each bear has its own unique personality and is as individual as they come. For Bernadette, who has been working as a part-time Customer Service Representative (CSR) at Regional headquarters for close to 16 years, treating everyone individually – whether bear or human, is the key to doing her job well.

Bernadette is part of a dedicated three-person team working at Access Peel, the customer service facility at 10 Peel Centre Dr . Along with fellow CSR, Allison Mallen and Team Clerk, Helen Cuschieri, Bernadette provides information regarding Regional programs and services to walk-in, telephone and e-mail clients. Together they answered 5,500 phone calls last year and processed 7,152 water payments among many other activities.

"We’re the first point of contact for customers entering the building," says Bernadette. Even with the occasional line up, Bernadette never looks ruffled. "I try to treat each customer as an individual and they really appreciate that," she says. She keeps a special comment card at home from a lady who recognized her "for always being pleasant and helpful." Bernadette says, "when people show you appreciation, it really inspires you to do more."
