Are you concerned about the environment but don’t know where to start? Unsure about whether you can really make a difference? Here’s a hint: it’s the little things that count. You don’t have to be an environmentalist to save the world – just a concerned citizen.
Conservationpeel.ca is a website that provides Peel residents with the knowledge and tools to lessen their impact on the environment by making simple changes to everyday habits. The website, launched by Public Works and Corporate Energy Management, links users to information about Peel’s conservation programs and offers easy tools and tips for residents to be more resource-efficient.
“Peel residents care about the environment and are eager to know how they can make a difference,” says Johann Manente, Acting Manager of Education Programs and Services in Public Works. “That’s where we got the idea for Conservation Peel – we wanted to create one central website for residents where they could get ideas to make their home more efficient and save money on their utility bills.”
The highlight of the Conservation Peel site is the “sustainable home,” a virtual model of a home filled with eco-friendly tips both inside and outside. From the front yard, to the kitchen, bedrooms and basement, visitors will learn ways to conserve resources in every space of their home.
The conservation tips are broken down into four environmental categories; earth, air, water and energy. Each tip links the user to more information about Peel’s conservation initiatives related to that category, and how the little things will help our environment.
