Regional employees lent a hand on Days of Caring,
October 17, in support of United Way agencies
across Peel.

Patricia Chrisjohn
Policy Analyst, Social Housing, Housing
and Property
Location: I volunteered at the Canadian
Mental Health Association, Peel Activities
and Rehabilitation (PAR) North in Brampton.
Duties: I helped clean a storage
room and re-organized it so the staff and
clients could use it as an audio-visual
and filing/storage room.
Feelings/Reflections: "It was
teamwork at its best! I learned so much
in one day about people with mental and
emotional issues, and how the right kind
of support and understanding can help so
much."

Public Health Nurse, Tobacco Use and
Substance Abuse Prevention, Health
Location: I volunteered at the Canadian
Mental Health Association, PAR North in
Brampton.
Duties: We transformed a very cluttered
storage room into an audio-visual room.
Feelings/Reflections: "It was
a very productive day and the people were
so supportive. Im so grateful to have
been a part of it and I would love to be
included in another Days of Caring."

Location: Community Living Residence
Duties: Helping a family with special
needs to organize their living area.
Feelings/Reflections: "I feel
this program is a great way to help out
in the community. The experience gave me
a new perspective - I know that just a few
hours of help and support can really benefit
a person."

Location: Community Living Residence
Duties: A single mother of an autistic
teenager requested some assistance with
general housekeeping and outdoor yard work
at her home.
Feelings/Reflections: "The
mother was thrilled with the end result
because the free time allowed her to focus
on the needs of her son, and other areas
of the home that needed work. It was a great
opportunity to assist in the community.
Hats off to the Region for becoming a community
partner with the United Way Days of Caring!"

Duties: Stripped wallpaper and painted
the living and dining room and raked leaves.
Feelings/Reflections: "I was
thrilled to be a part of Days of Caring.
Thanks for the opportunity to do a good
deed and have fun at the same time."

Location: Community Living, Mississauga
Duties: stripping wallpaper, painting
and raking leaves.
Feelings/Reflections: "Noor
and I worked very hard all day and it really
felt good looking at the finished product.
Before we left, a lady who worked in the
house arrived, and she was so appreciative
of what we had done. It was an extremely
good feeling to know that we had made a
difference in someones life."

Duties: Stripping wallpaper, painting,
raking and bagging leaves and rotten apples.
Feelings/Reflections: "I received
a warm welcome at the site and heard appreciative
comments from both the residents and staff.
There was a great spirit of teamwork and
I left the site feeling very positive."

the work very rewarding. Our time and work

(CCS) in Bolton
Duties: To assist with the CCS Wheelchair
Van Escort. Assisting clients (from the
Davis Centre and residential addresses)
to and from medical appointments in Brampton
and helping senior citizens with grocery
shopping.
Feelings/Reflections: "This
assignment provided me with a new appreciation
for the daily flexibility, professionalism
and compassion displayed by staff operating
the Wheelchair Vans, and provided me with
the opportunity and pleasure to meet the
clients who utilize services provided by
CCS and the United Way."
