Always working to improve
What is a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO)?
BPSOs are healthcare and academic organizations selected by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) to use, test and evaluate its Best Practice Guidelines. Peel Long Term Care was one of four long-term care providers in Ontario selected to be the first to implement the guidelines as a designated BPSO.
What Best Practice Guidelines have been implemented?
With support of the RNAO expert mentorship and consultation on the Best Practice Guidelines and because of the intense work of nurses and the interdisciplinary team members from various roles and departments, Peel Long Term Care has successfully implemented four Best Practice Guidelines across all five of our long-term care centres. Peel Long Term Care will continue to implement and spread Best Practice Guidelines in 2019, to ensure quality and safe care for those who call our centres home.
The four Best Practice Guidelines that Peel Long Term Care has implemented include:
- Assessment and Management of Pain
- Prevention of Falls and Fall Injuries in the Older Adult
- Person-and Family-Centred Care
- Preventing and Addressing Abuse and Neglect of Older Adults
In 2018, Peel Long Term Care implemented, as a pilot, two Best Practice Guidelines related to a Healthy Work Environment in one of our centres. With the success of this pilot, these guidelines will be expanded across the other four centres. These guidelines are: Intra-Professional Collaborative Practice Among Nurses and Developing and Sustaining Nursing Leadership.
In 2019, Peel Long Term Care will also implement new Best Practice Guidelines. They include: Risk Assessment and Prevention of Pressure Ulcers and Assessment and Management of Pressure Injuries for the Interprofessional Team.
