Peel Manor’s History/ Part of Your Community
Peel Manor is one of five long-term care centres operated by the Regional Municipality of Peel, one level of local government. Peel Manor originally opened before the start of the 20th century (1898) as Peel County Manor. It has undergone many renovations since it first opened, with the most recent renovation completed in 1994.
Peel Manor operates in accordance with the relevant legislation and in compliance with the policies of the Regional Municipality of Peel. The Manor is an accredited long-term care centre. In 2007 we were involved in an accreditation process with the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation. This means that we voluntarily asked to be evaluated by an independent non-profit organization of health care professionals for compliance with national standards set by our peers. We successfully received the highest award from this organization.
The Manor provides services for residents in a care centre and through outreach programs for seniors in the community. As part of the Ontario health care delivery system, Peel Manor works cooperatively with community medical health and support services and area hospitals to provide a full range of services to its residents. The Manor’s 177 residents, many of whom may suffer from dementia, cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities, enjoy a variety of programs and services within a supportive environment.
In addition to the essential services such as nursing, medical, dietetics, therapeutic recreation and environmental services, Peel Manor also makes available on-site rehabilitation and physiotherapy services. These services include podiatry, psychogeriatric consultations and optometry, audiology and dental clinics.
Tender Care Approach
Resident-centered care is the direction long-term care has adopted to enhance the quality of life of residents. Staffing, programs, and facility design support rather than challenge our residents who are cognitively impaired. Moyra Jones outlines this approach in her book “GentleCare”. A plan has been developed to adapt this model of care to our Centre. Our team has developed the name “Tender Care” for our unique style of care.
Our Commitment
Peel Manor promotes respect for the dignity, worth, autonomy and individuality of all.
We are committed to promoting the safety of the resident/Day Program participants, staff and the physical plant. Resident/Day Program participants, their families, volunteers and staff at all levels of the Home are encouraged to provide input and feedback. Receiving feedback is important to us.
As a new resident, your move to our Home will be made as comfortable as possible by staff who are here to help you adjust to your new environment. Your family members are encouraged to assist in helping make the transition smooth.
Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. There are several lounges available throughout the Home if you wish to see your visitors in a place other than your room.
