Located in the heart of a well-established residential community known as Park Royal, Sheridan Villa has more than 30 years of experience in caring for the Peel community.
Centre features
Sheridan Villa is currently being renovated into a modern home for residents and Adult Day Service clients. Once construction is completed, Sheridan Villa will operate 142 long-term care beds.
Indoors
Newly renovated home areas
Sheridan Villa’s newly renovated resident home areas are spacious, bright and welcoming. Each area has its own dining room, a designated space for activities, a lounge and a terrace.
A greenhouse, spacious lobby with a café, tuck shop and numerous cozy seating areas will be added when the second phase of the redevelopment is completed in the summer of 2009.
Outdoors
Horticultural programs
Sheridan Villa is known for its several horticultural programs. Residents and Day Service participants grow and sell vegetables and take care of plants in two lovely gardens.
Gardens
Sheridan Villa's enclosed outdoor garden provides a safe environment for residents with dementia. A therapeutic garden on the south side of the building has raised flower and vegetable beds, a water fountain, herb garden and gazebo. It’s the perfect place for residents to relax in the summer and participate in horticultural activities.
Sheridan Villa is home to several birds and fish (in aquariums) and is planning to introduce additional pets after redevelopment.
Philosophy of care
The Sheridan Villa team follows the Eden Alternative® philosophy of care. Eden Alternative views long-term care centres as habitats for human beings rather than institutions for the frail and elderly. This philosophy not only guides the way we provide care, but also promotes friendship and meaningful activities.
Community partnerships
Early Years Program
Sheridan Villa has developed several partnerships with local organizations. The Early Years Program operates the Parents and Tots centre on the first floor every weekday morning. Residents often visit to interact with children and participate in activities together. Local schools and entertainers also visit frequently to perform for residents at special events and celebrations.
Sheridan Villa Volunteer Auxiliary assists with many programs and raises funds for the home.
