(Brampton) - On Saturday, April 21, 2001, the Peel Car Seat Safety Committee will celebrate "Love Me, Buckle Me Right Day" with FREE Car Seat Clinics in Caledon and Mississauga. The clinics, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held in south Caledon at the Snelgrove Flea Market and in Mississauga at South Common Mall.

Correctly used child restraints reduce the likelihood of child injury or death during a motor vehicle collision by 75 per cent. In Canada, four out of every five children are not properly restrained in their car seats. Common car seat installation mistakes include improper use of the tether strap, failure to use locking clips on seat belts and improper tightening of seat belts.

During "Love Me, Buckle Me Right Day", trained inspectors will be on hand at each location to check car seat installations and provide car seat safety education to parents and caregivers of young children. Participants must bring their child, the car seat manufacturer's instructions and their vehicle's owner's manual. Each safety assessment should take approximately 20 minutes.

Snelgrove Flea Market is located on Highway 10, north of Mayfield Road, in south Caledon. South Common Mall is located at the corner of Burnhamthorpe Road and Erin Mills Parkway in Mississauga. Additional Car Seat Safety Clinics will be held across Peel Region in May, June and July. For more information on "Love Me, Buckle Me Right Day" and all upcoming Car Seat Clinics, call Health Line Peel at 905-799-7700.

The Peel Car Safety Committee is a cooperative venture of the Peel Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, St. John's Ambulance, Co-operator's Insurance Group, the Peel Health Department and Peel Fire and Emergency Services.
